Answers to common questions
How do I choose a plumber for an emergency?
Start with the basics. Ask if the provider is licensed in your state and carries insurance. Ask what the visit fee covers and how they price the repair. Then ask for the quote in writing before work starts. Arthuruniversities Plumbing is a referral service, so we connect you with independent providers in our network. You pick what fits your home.
Is there really a 24 hour plumber near me?
Some providers take after-hours jobs, and some do not. Hours vary a lot from one provider to the next. Arthuruniversities Plumbing does not do the work and cannot promise a set arrival time. Request a callback to check provider availability, or send an estimate request with your details. Many providers can respond quickly when a leak or backup is serious.
What can I safely do myself before help arrives?
Shut off the water at the main valve if a pipe is leaking. Turn off the water heater if it is flooding. Move rugs and valuables out of the way. Stop using sinks and toilets if a drain is backing up. Skip harsh chemicals and do not climb into crawl spaces with standing water. Take photos for your records.
When is a clogged drain more than a DIY fix?
A plunger can help with one slow sink. Call a provider if several drains are slow, water gurgles, or sewage smells show up. Those signs often point to a blocked pipe deeper in the line. Store-bought drain cleaners can harm older pipes. They can also make a pro's job harder, so skip them if you can.
How much does a plumbing repair usually cost?
Costs vary by job. In the U.S., basic drain clearing often runs about $100 to $350. Sewer line repair can run from about $1,000 to well over $5,000, based on depth, length and method. Access matters too. Ask for a written quote that lists labor, parts and any extra fees before you agree.
Can the work fit around my family's schedule?
Often, yes. Tell the provider about school runs, work-from-home calls, naps and pets. Many will plan around those. Ask how long water will be off and how much of the yard or floor will be opened up. Our request form asks for your preferred times so the provider can plan.
Will my insurance pay for the repair?
It depends on your policy. Some policies may cover sudden damage, but wear and tear is often left out. Sewer backups may need extra coverage. Check your policy or ask your agent. Providers can often help document damage for a claim. Keep photos, notes and your written quote together.
What happens after I send an estimate request?
Arthuruniversities Plumbing shares your details with a local provider in our network. The provider may reach out to ask a few questions, such as what you see and when you are home. You can then compare the quote in writing. There is no obligation, so you can say no if it does not feel right.
